Anne"Merck is committed to supporting the work of Cancervive, because they develop valuable educational materials for cancer patients, their caregivers and healthcare providers... Cancer patients and their families are hungry for information. Empowering them through educational materials is a goal that Merck and Cancervive share. It is well known that when cancer patients are well informed that they become active partners in their treatment."

Fred Brotman, Candle Corporation employee and Candle Foundation volunteer, participated on the evaluation team that recommended Cancervive for a grant. Fred states, "While evaluating their funding request, I watched the Cancervive tapes at home with my wife, Mary, an occupational therapist with a local school district. I also passed the tapes on to a couple of teachers I know (one teaches 2nd grade; the other, 5th). We all agreed that the content and presentation of this sensitive material very effectively supports a child's re-entry into the classroom after a life threatening illness. The teachers were impressed with the detailed information that the video provided, helping them 'take the lead' in a situation where they lacked experience. One teacher indicated that, with the material, she would feel more comfortable dealing with such a situation a if it were to arise in her classroom."

"Cancervive presented a project that was well thought-out, had a good nationwide distribution plan and was very worthwhile. Through the distribution of this video, children with cancer will have an immediate support mechanism to assist them in coping with the emotional effects of this devastating disease."
